Full-Time Community Planner

Salary Hiring Range: $56,465 to $60,490

General Duties and Job Requirements: 

Mid-Minnesota Development Commission (MMDC) is a regional development organization that serves stakeholders and residents of the four Minnesota counties of Kandiyohi, McLeod, Meeker, and Renville. MMDC is currently seeking a full-time Community Planner with the skills necessary to provide technical assistance to local units of government while leading MMDC’s ordinance, comprehensive planning, and other project-focused work. This Community Planner will also promote MMDC services throughout the region and may participate in grant-writing or other activities that support improved quality of life for our stakeholders.

The right applicant will have extensive knowledge of current planning and zoning regulations and practices. They will have a thorough knowledge of community planning principles and be comfortable facilitating small and large group meetings, including public hearings, with a wide variety of people and personalities. Technical planning experience, including experience working on ordinance and/or comprehensive planning projects, or a bachelor’s or master’s degree in planning, urban studies, public administration, or a closely-related field, from an accredited institution, is necessary for consideration.

Full-Time Finance & Office Manager

Salary Hiring Range: $62,253 to $66,687 annually

General Duties and Job Requirements: 

MMDC is seeking a new Finance & Office Manager to replace a current professional who will retire during the second quarter of 2022 (specific date to be determined). This new hire will have ample opportunity to work alongside our current professional until that time to learn the specifics of this nuanced role.

The Finance & Office Manager helps to guide MMDC operations and is directly responsible for the financial functions of our organization. This includes management of MMDC’s financial system to ensure all programs have timely and accurate financial status, accounts receivable and payable are current, compliance with federal and state standards is maintained, and employee payroll accounts are correctly administered. Additionally, while finance-focused work will comprise the large majority of the Finance & Office Manager’s day, this professional will also spend some time overseeing the internal operations of the MMDC office (e.g., space, security, maintenance, insurance coverages, communications, and employee benefits) for our small organization (typically, eight staff).

The right applicant will be highly organized, have strong communication skills, and have a high aptitude for budgeting and clerical functions. They must enjoy learning, be trustworthy and be willing to share information, serving as a mentor to other staff less familiar with rules or procedures. A proactive problem-solver with strong decision-making ability will excel in this role. Candidates should also be comfortable with Microsoft 365 programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). It is essential that candidates have the ability to consider both expenditures and income opportunities with a critical lens, so as to help MMDC maintain a solid financial position over the long term.

While an accounting-related degree (associates or bachelor’s) is preferred and newer graduates with these credentials are encouraged to apply, MMDC will consider candidates without these credentials if they can demonstrate a history of strong budget management (beyond household budgets), and file or account management.
