A road diet is a transportation planning technique whereby the number of travel lanes and/or effective road width is reduced to make room for other improvements, such as widened sidewalks and patio areas, bike lanes, or landscaped boulevards. These changes can improve safety while making commercial “Main Street” areas more attractive for businesses and residents.
