Volunteer Driver Programs and Opportunities

Volunteer drivers are crucial to the well-being of many in our communities. These individuals often travel to the homes of non-drivers (often older adults or people with disabilities) take them to medical appointments or other locations and then return them home.

In addition to providing a safe ride, these volunteers provide important social interaction. In addition to receiving a modest expense reimbursement, volunteer drivers can feel good about the fact they are helping a neighbor stay in their home while remaining active in their community!

Professional Driver Career Opportunities

The MMDC Region needs driving professionals! Professional drivers make it possible for non-drivers to get to work, school, medical appointments, shopping locations, social events, and other important places.

Right now, our local transit bus companies, school bus companies, and specialized transportation providers have a variety of open positions (both full and part-time)! On-the-job training is available to ensure you’re ready to drive a bus or wheelchair-accessible van. No prior professional driving experience is necessary!

These are all terrific opportunities for people who:

    • Value safety
    • Can provide great customer service to a wide variety of people
    • Enjoy helping their neighbors, including seniors and people with disabilities, stay active in the community while living in their own homes
    • Like driving but need to be home at the end of each day
If you want a job that gives you the chance to brighten someone’s day and make a real difference in our community, a professional driving career may be right for you. A relatively good, but not necessarily perfect, driving record is also required. All drivers must also pass a drug test and a Department of Transportation physical.

      Drivers often receive:

        • A solid wage – much higher than many other customer-service roles!
        • Attractive benefits packages, including paid time off!
        • Training that leads to a commercial driver’s license (CDL), if needed for the job!
        • Options for full-time or part-time schedules!
        • Year-round work (no seasonal shut-downs)!
        • The satisfaction of serving their community!
        •  The opportunity for advancement

If you're not sure how to connect with the transportation you need to stay healthy and active, please refer to our Transportation Resource Guide (above) or call us at (320) 235-8504.
