3 More Organizations Awarded Mid-Minnesota Community Enhancement Grants
Funds Will Support Emergency Response and a Community Splash Pad Project
December 6, 2022: Three more groups were awarded Mid-Minnesota Community Enhancement Grants during the Mid-Minnesota Development Commission’s (MMDC) November 30 meeting. This opportunity is made available to strengthen local communities and support developments and activities that increase quality of life throughout the MMDC Region. Grants may be used to fund health, safety, or other wellness-focused training for community members and/or specific professional or volunteer groups; purchase of items needed for improved emergency response; procure items to enhance the ability of law enforcement to develop positive relationships with youth, people of color, and other groups; add public amenities that will promote physical and/or mental well-being or increase opportunities for positive community interaction (e.g., recreation equipment, walking path amenities); or support workforce training opportunities for youth and other populations.
501(c)3 nonprofits, school districts, and local government units located in Kandiyohi, McLeod, Meeker, and Renville Counties are eligible to apply for Community Enhancement Grants of up to $3,000. MMDC’s Board of Commissioners has made $30,000 available for this effort for the current fiscal year (July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023). As of November 30, $18,490 remains available for award. Last week’s grant recipients included:
- Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad – Funds will be used to purchase high pressure lifting bags needed to raise heavy objects so that people can be freed from motor vehicle crashes, building collapses, and other perilous situations.
- Splash Island Adventure Park (an organized nonprofit) –Funds will be used to support the 2023 construction of a new splash pad facility in the community of Bird Island.
- Eden Valley Fire & Rescue Service – Funds will be used to assist with the purchase of new boots needed to adequately protect their members during fires and other emergencies.
