Ben joined the MMDC team in January 2022 as our new Community Planner. Ben brings a unique approach and a great passion for rural communities to his work.
Prior to joining MMDC, Ben served, as the City of Montevideo’s Community and Economic Development Director. While there, his work focused on building and improving the Montevideo community by supporting childcare, housing, business development, and tourism. In addition to community development, Ben brings a law background, having served both as a judicial law clerk and a law firm associate. He is able to draw on this legal knowledge when assisting communities.
Ben holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science from Southwest Minnesota State University, and a law degree from the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in advocacy and political leadership from Metropolitan State University (graduation anticipated Fall 2022).
Raised in Appleton, Minnesota. Ben is dedicated to rural economic development, community planning, and ensuring a high quality of life for his rural neighbors. He has a great passion for supporting businesses and families by ensuring Minnesota’s communities have amenities that attract quality workers, including quality housing and childcare.
In his free time Ben enjoys trivia, singing karaoke, patronizing local breweries, partaking in the occasional bloody mary (extra spicy, please!). He is also a passionate fan of Minnesota sports and therefore has a good understanding of true heartbreak. He is still working to recover from the scars of the MN Vikings’ 98-99 season, Ben’s first season of true Viking dedication.
